GOALPARA: Meenakshi Das Nath, the 1992 batch Assam Civil Service (ACS) cadre officer, assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara district on Friday following the transfer of Varnali Deka, her predecessor.

Meenakshi Das Nath was earlier posted as the Director of the Welfare of Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes. On the other hand, Varnali Deka has been appointed as the secretary, Assam Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship department and MD, EGM.

Post assuming charge, the new DC held a discussion with the senior officers of the district and took stock of the situation, especially under the present COVID wave being faced by the district and how to tackle it. Reportedly, she gave necessary directions in this regard and emphasized upon making the administration a people-friendly one.

Meenakshi Das Nath also went for a spot visit of the Balijana Sadar Circle and Matia Circle for Circle inspection the next day. Besides, she took stock of flood preparedness and COVID Care. Meanwhile, love and regards poured in for Varnali Deka on her departure from the district where she served for more than two years. 'Goalpara District Administration, Assam', the official social media page of the district administration received huge applause for her fruitful tenure as the DC during which the Aspirational District jumped from 80 to 22 rank during the course of pandemic.

The local people also remembered how did she prepared the frontline COVID workers in 2020 by bringing them under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana insurance and also presenting them with COVID kits. Her technology based works like COVAAS app for Covid information, YouTube channel through school teachers to continue uninterrupted teachings during the pandemic, e-sale platform for local weavers and producers were also appreciated.
