Dibrugarh: A meeting regarding the procurement of food grains from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) was held at the DC office on Thursday. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and attended by MLA Prashanta Phukan and District Development Commissioner Sanjay Dutta, the meeting initially witnessed the office bearers of Food Corporation of India informing Jha of the process of procurement of food grains from the farmers based on certificates of Agriculture Department at the government-determined MSP in the past years.

The DC was also informed that the FCI was ready to repeat the process in the current year at Rs 1815 per quintal. Mentioning that the farmers, who were currently selling their produce at Rs 1400 per quintal, would be able to sell the same at a higher price, the DC ordered the office bearers of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department and FCI to set up food grains collection centres, even if makeshift, in those areas from where most food grains are expected to be collected as a measure aimed at saving transportation cost for the farmers.
