Meet on leprosy held at Dibrugarh DC office

DIBRUGARH: A meeting was held regarding formation of District Co-ordination Committee for Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign under NLEP was held at the conference hall of DC office, Dibrugarh on Monday. The meeting presided over by Biswajit Phukan, ADC, Dibrugarh witnessed the presence of the District consultant, Dr. Dilip Buragohain, District Leprosy officer, Dr. Rani Saikia, in-charge Joint Director of Health Services of Dr. Trishna Baruah, DPM, NHM, Dibrugarh, Satyajit Moran, Deputy, CEO, Zilla Parishad, P&RD, Tikendrajit Movang, Snigddha Rani Das, DIPRO, Dibrugarh. In the meeting, Dr. Dilip Buragohan, District Consultant explained in details about the different symptoms of the disease and also how it can be controlled by self-awareness and treatment in the initial detection of the disease. He further stated that the disease is curable but because of the stereotype mindset and social stigma, the victims find it hard to disclose their suffering and hence because of lack of immediate treatment, it often leads to further deformity of the organs of the body.
