TEZPUR: Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector of Plantations in Tezpur, convened a meeting on Monday at the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner in Tezpur to discuss the implementation of medical facilities in Sonitpur district tea gardens under the Plantations Labour Act and Rules. In the meeting, secretary of ABITA and TAI, Mrinmoy Baruah and Sonam Das, president of ACMS Bhima Tanti and secretary Sunil Tuti and all tea garden managers of Sonitpur district were present.

Dr. P K Lahkar advised all garden managers during the programme to immediately appoint an adequate number of medical and paramedical staff in their gardens and to take the initiative to appoint MBBS doctors. Dr Lahkar also directed to maintain their ambulance in good condition to carry serious patients to the garden hospital. He urged all the garden managers to follow the guidelines of government notification in referring patients. He also mentioned that he has already filed cases against Sessa Tea Estate, Ghoirali Tea Estate, Sapoi Tea Estate and Tinkhuria Tea Estate. Dr Lahkar also requested all members to extend their cooperation to district health society to implement various health programmes in the garden specially TB elimination programme, reduction of MMR and IMR in the garden areas. Secretary of ABITA and TAI agreed to advise all the tea garden managers to follow the latest guidelines of Medical advisory Board.
