BOKO: Meghalaya has one again allegedly encroached upon Assam's Dronpara under Boko LAC in Kamrup district. Dronpara is around 24 km away from Boko and some six km away from Lumpi.

Lumpi and its nearby areas are always in the news and the only reason is the inter-State border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya. After the separation of Assam and Meghalaya in 1972, people of Meghalaya have been illegally encroaching upon Assam's land in the Lumpi area. Due to the border issue, many people have also died. Meghalaya even stopped the Assam Government's development projects when it tried to set up a government office on Assam land.

This time, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has tried to give electricity connection in Dronpara, Assam. As part of this, MePDCL has already set up a high tension electricity connection in Dronpara to provide free electricity connection to every household under the Prime Minister's Saubhagya scheme. The village headman of Lumpi area, Krishna Sharma came to know about the conspiracy. Meanwhile, Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) also got the same information and both informed the district administration. APDCL has already started to give free electricity connections in the Dronpara area.

The Kamrup administration jumped into action and on Wednesday, Kamrup ADC SatyajitBaruah, Kamrup ASP SanjivSaikia and Boko Revenue Circle Officer SurajitKalita visited the spot. Meanwhile, Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills District ADC PD Sangma, MePDCL's executive engineers P K Shullet and K. Raswai also visited the spot along with the Assam team. After that, they discussed the matter. Assam ADC SatyajitBaruah and ASP SanjivSaikia requested the Meghalaya officials to stop the development work in Assam. Meghalaya ADC P D Sangma agreed to the request and he said that the matter would be resolved after discussion by the higher authorities of the governments of both States.
