Milk Processing plant inaugurated in Baksa

Kokrajhar: Executive Member of Agriculture, BTC, Ansumwi Khunggur Boro on Saturday inaugurated the milk processing plant at Kokilabari Farm in Baksa district on the presence of MLA Thaneswar Basumatary and senior officers.

Later, talking to reporters, Boro said the milk processing plant at Kokilabari was the first milk plant in BTC which was set up at a cost of Rs. 2.36 crore under Rs. 250 crore Additional BTC package. He said the farmers would get the benefits only if the processing plant was set up. He also said the department concerned had taken up initiatives for integrated farming in the Kokilabari farm where the farmers would have livelihood opportunity in poultry farming, cattle farming, fishery, piggery, horticulture and agriculture. The department would provide training to farmers in various sectors, he said, adding that the training on integrated farming would be given in the training centre at Kokilabari farm.

Boro stressed multiple cropping and said that BTC region had potential enough for organic production. He said agro-based industries were the need of the hour to double the income of farmers. He also said that farmers of the locality would get benefits from the milk processing plant as the plant was handed over to local society Sanjibini Foundation. He called upon the local unemployed youths to come forward for integrated farming.

The CHD of Dairy Development, Pradip Dutta Baruah said this was the first milk processing plant in BTC where various milk products would be produced. He said one should drink milk free from bacteria. He also said 5,000 litres of milk could be processed in the plant and local unemployed youths would get livelihood opportunities.
