Minister Bimal Borah reviews flood damage, inspects flood-affected areas in Chirang district

KOKRAJHAR: As per order of the State Government, State Industries and Commerce and Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah on Tuesday visited Chirang district to take stock of the current situation of the flood-affected people and to review the damage caused by the floods in the district.

As soon as he reached the district, the minister first visited the relief camp set up at No.1 Phagunagaon under Bijni Revenue Circle and interacted with the flood victims. He assured them of all necessary arrangements for them from the government.

The minister then visited the flood-affected areas of Khujrabguri revenue village and took stock of the erosion caused by the Lankar River and directed the officials of the water resources department to install porcupines on the banks of the river for taking immediate preventive measure.

During his visit, he was accompanied by Bijni MLA Ajay Kumar Roy, Senior Secretary to the Government of Assam, Dr Lakhsmanan S, Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Superintendent of Police Pranjit Bora, Additional Commissioner and other officials of the district administration.

He also addressed a flood review meeting held with the heads of various departments of the district in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and other senior officers of the district administration at the conference hall of the Chirang District Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon.

Through this review meeting, the minister tried to get a clear picture of the post-flood situation in the district. After learning about the extent of damage from the survey conducted under the departments of public works, animal husbandry and veterinary, fisheries, agriculture, public health engineering, water resources, power, education, panchayat and rural development, the minister directed the departments to submit their respective departmental damage reports to the district administration at the earliest. The minister urged everyone to ensure that the real beneficiaries are not deprived of government assistance and are not left out while preparing a list of damages.
