Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviews COVID-19 situation across Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Haflong Civil Hospital on Tuesday to assess the isolation ward of the hospital. The minister also felicitated the first batch of doctors, nurses and other health staff who completed their 14-day institutional quarantine after treating COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Stating the challenges of technicalities involved in a difficult terrain like Dima Hasao, especially during the rainy season, Sarma appreciated the efforts of the medical and the civil officials to fight this pandemic.

Sarma reached Haflong to take stock of COVID-19 preparedness in Dima Hasao on Monday evening. He was accompanied by MP Pallab Lochan Das, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang and MP Horensing Bey.

In the evening he held a review meeting with the Executive Members and Members of Autonomous Council, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and officials of Health department to discuss the arrangements for fighting against COVID-19 in the district. During the meeting it was decided that further on, all swab samples collected in Dima Hasao would be tested in Guwahati till the time Diphu Medical College got its approval from ICMR. Once the Diphu Medical College is functional, results of tests for COVID-19 will be derived at a faster pace to ease the load in hospital and institutional quarantine centres in this district.

The meeting was held in presence of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) CEM Debolal Gorlosa, local MLA BB Hagjer, NCHAC EM in-charge for Medical, Samuel Changsan, and NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa.
