SILCHAR: It was a cloud capped morning with cool breeze blowing when Minister Parimal Suklabaidya hoisted the Tricolour to the roaring sound of claps of the audience at DSA ground in Silchar. The minister paying profound homage to uncounted brave hearts who laid down their lives for the sake of motherland said, "This historic occasion has been the result of their supreme sacrifices." He did not miss to pay his tributes to six police jawans who died to save the territorial integrity of Assam.

Assam like all other States has been passing through very hard times with all resources locked up due to COVID-19 pandemic. People did not lose patience with the hope that this critical situation would end. Keeping in mind the dictum of Prime Minister Narendra Modi "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash and Sabka Biswas," dynamic Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken up important decisions on development and implementing them, all in the services of people, pointed out Parimal Suklabaidya.

"Our Government has taken bold decisions on creation of one lakh jobs, waiving the micro-finance loans, population control, curbing illegal trafficking, rescuing 175 mothers and children, cow slaughter and cattle smuggling and restoration of encroached land in plain, hills and forested areas and the plan continues," the minister said. Drive against drugs across the State has resulted in hauling of drugs worth crores of rupees.

In order to fight COVID-19, 1.87 crore people till date have been vaccinated. On health and medical care, oxygen plants have been set up to meet the need of COVID patients. More medical colleges are coming up and under Assam Cancer Care Foundation Company, cancer units are to be set up in different districts. Wages of tea workers have been upped and the disparity in Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys has been done away with. To encourage online education in remote rural areas, setting up of mobile towers is on the anvil, Parimal Suklabaidya pointed out.

Most important, almost all underground outfits have opted for dialogue and peace, realising gun-culture will lead them nowhere. Modernisation of police force and creation of 10 Commando Battalions to be posted along sensitive border areas to protect the territorial integrity of Assam are on the agenda of the government. Along with that development and infrastructure improvement of games and sports are the priority.

Roads and highways are being further developed for pacing up economic amelioration of people. Power tillers and tractors are provided free to target group of farmers. Stress is on developing forested areas as tourist destination. Suklabaidya said with the ushering in of peace in the state, the emphasis of Himanta Biswa Sarma is on development in all sectors. Equal importance is given to Cachar. Assam overcoming the challenges of COVID-19 is now poised for all round economic resurgence, the minister summed up.
