KOKRAJHAR: Assam Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD), Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Food Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Tuesday visited Chirang district and reviewed the implementation status of various State and Centrally sponsored schemes being implemented in Chirang district at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon.

Reviewing the status of progress of implementation of Jal Jivan Mission (JJM) in the district with the help of a power point presentation, minister Dass urged the district administration and PHE officials for a whole-hearted involvement to ensure pipe water supply in every household within the stipulated time as Chirang district was quite lagging in the execution of the scheme. He stressed that providing potable water to every rural household was a national priority and the district should make efforts to accomplish the goal in a time-bound manner. He also asked to involve local village communities and functionaries of Village Council Development Committees (VCDC) in the implementation, operation and maintenance of the water supply systems in rural areas. He further ordered to organize IEC campaign along with community mobilization to make the JJM familiar to public and stressed to form water users' committees for smooth management of the scheme.

The minister also reviewed the implementation status of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, National Social Assistant Programme, Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme, National Family Benefit Scheme, Swanirbhar Nari: Atmanirbhar Asom, including Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for providing of LPG connection to BPL households, rice allotment and distribution under Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Aamar Dukan of the Panchayat and Rural Development Agency and Food Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs department respectively in Chirang district.

The review meeting was attended by Bijni MLA Ajoy Kumar Ray, Deputy Speaker of Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly Abhiram Mahanayak, BTC Executive Member Dr. Nilut Swargiary and other officials of district administration.
