Minor girl commits suicide in South Dholai
Amid much hullabaloo over mass arrest of the people who had allegedly breached child marriage law, the suicide case of a 16 year girl in Dholai had made ripples.

SILCHAR: Amid much hullabaloo over mass arrest of the people who had allegedly breached child marriage law, the suicide case of a 16 year girl in Dholai had made ripples. The minor girl, resident of Rajnagar, a village in South Dholai had killed herself by hanging from a tree on Saturday. According to her mother, the girl was in love with a boy and their families had agreed to the wedding. Police launched a massive drive against the perpetrators of the child marriage act, and more than 2000 people, mostly grooms, were arrested. The minor girl in Rajnagar village was reportedly dejected though, according to her mother, she was assured by the family that the marriage would definitely take place once she attained the age of 18 years.
On Friday night the minor girl wore a bridal saree she had taken from her sister-in- law's wardrobe and along with her friends the girl did some wedding photoshoot. The mother of the minor girl claimed that she had seen her daughter standing near a tree with a rope hanging with the branch. The mother said, she had reiterated that the marriage would definitely take place. Later the mother reached their home. As even after few hours, the girl did not return, the mother sent her another daughter to see what had happened and the latter saw the minor had already hanged herself. Dholai police had already initiated an investigation but refused to make any comment on the sensitive issue.
