SILCHAR: Police have launched a probe in connection with alleged gangrape of a minor girl at Kathaltali in Karimganj district on Wednesday night.

An FIR was lodged with Kathaltali police outpost by the girl's elder brother on Thursday. As per the complaint, the girl was kidnapped from her house on Wednesday night by three persons (accused) of an adjacent village Kurti – Kamal Uddin, Kala Miya and Shahid Ahmed in a car (MZ-01 G-0048) and forcibly took her to a house at Balurbond, Kathaltali and raped her there. The house belongs to a person Montu. After raping her throughout the night, the accused persons fled took her somewhere and all of them have been missing since then, the FIR said.

The complainant urged the police authorities to investigate the case thoroughly and take stern action against all the accused persons.

An official at Kathaltali police outpost said police have launched an investigation. He hoped the girl would be recovered and the accused persons arrested very soon.

A source in police said two girls (including the girl who was allegedly raped) went missing from Kathaltali on that day. A section of people suspect that the persons, who raped her, might be linked with an international human trafficking racket. Concerned residents have expressed their displeasure over the role of the police for not being able to nab the accused persons even though three days have passed since the alleged incident of rape took place. They demanded that the matter be treated seriously and sought the Karimganj superintendent of police's intervention.
