Minor girl killed after gang rape

JOYSAGAR: In a shocking and brutal incident that took place in Khera Basti of Charaideo Tea Estate under Sonari PS on August 31, a minor girl was allegedly killed after being raped by miscreants. On August 31, the villagers of Khera Basti had arranged a religious function to mark the annual Manasa Puja. Locals informed that the minor girl had also participated in the puja. In the puja pandal, a man called Ganesh Banik had asked her to go to a place nearby for some reason. Miscreants then abducted her and took her to a nearby forest where they allegedly gang raped her and later killed her.

On September 1, villagers spotted the body of the abducted minor girl hanging from a tree near the forest. The parents identified her body and lodged an FIR in Sonari PS. Police booked Ganesh Banik as the prime suspect on September 2 and brought him to Sonari PS where he was interrogated. During interrogation he confessed to the crime and said that two others were also involved in it. The other two accused are absconding. In a fit of rage, local people attacked and burnt down Ganesh’s house on Monday. ATTSA Sonari district unit staged protest and demanded immediate arrest of the other two accused. ATTSA also demanded stringent punishment for all the accused and expressed serious concern over increasing incidents of crime against women.
