Minor Girl Raped Twice, Impregnated In Assam's Lakhimpur, One Held

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Assam's Lakhimpur district, a minor girl has been allegedly raped by a man who left her impregnated.

The accused has been identified as Ramjan Ali, a resident of the Manakachar area in the Lakhimpur district of Assam. Ali was employed as a labourer in the house of a person named Sahabul Islam from the same locality.

The incident and related crimes came to light on Friday 25 February.

As per sources, Ali raped the minor girl by luring the girl into a romantic relationship of love. After the rape incident, the minor girl became pregnant.

Ali then left her in Lakhimpur and fled away to Mankachar located in the Dhubri district of Assam. Sahabul Islam who employed Ali came to help the victim girl and took her to meet Ramjan Ali in Mankachar after the girl was pregnant for 4 months.

However, Islam again raped the girl inside the vehicle they were travelling to meet Ali.

Later the family members of the minor girl have lodged a complaint against the accused and narrated the entire incident.

Based on the complaint, the police officials arrested Sahabul Islam under the Section of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act. Further investigation of the case is underway.

It may be mentioned that crime against women has been steadily increasing in the state following a huge number of cases reported from different parts of Assam on a daily basis.

In another similar incident that took place in Assam, a married man allegedly raped his own minor sister several times and impregnated her in the Jagiroad locality of Marigaon district.

However, after 2 years of the incident on Monday 21 February, the man has been sentenced to 20 years of jail by the Special Judge of POCSO court in Morigaon for committing the heinous crime.
