DIGBOI: A four-year-old minor girl child was allegedly sexually abused by a 12-year old boy on Tuesday afternoon in the Gwalapatti area at Bogapani under Digboi police station in Tinsukia district.

The heinous crime committed on Tuesday came to light on Thursday morning when the father of the sexually abused minor lodged an FIR. Acting swiftly, Inspector Sanjiv Saikia rushed to the place and handled the sensitive case prudently. He carefully took both the minors in the legal fold and conducted a medical examination.

Meanwhile, ensuring utmost care, the victim was handed over to the parents while the accused minor was being prosecuted under the POSCO Act. A case 303/19 was registered under section 376 IPC, r/w POSCO Act.

According to Bhuban Gogoi, a resident of the Bogapani Gwalapatty area, the accused, who had recently come from Bihar to assist his father in his business, was living in a rented house. “One of my neighbours who had witnessed the crime being committed, informed me on Tuesday afternoon but I wanted them to reconcile the matter mutually,” said the landlord at the police station when asked about the reason for the delay in lodging the complaint.

“The accused was produced before the court and will be forewarned for juvenile custody under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015,” informed Biraj Das, the Investigating Officer.

The attention of the police, civil and railway administration may be drawn towards the Gwalapatty area in Bogapani wherein crimes of various nature and other anti-social activities were increasing. The said area of around 1.5 km runs parallel to the NH 38 and belongs to NF Railway. It is mostly inhabited by people from various locations pouring in over a period of time.

“The said encroached area has now become a hub of anti-social activities ranging from petty theft, sale of illegal liquor to murder, flesh trade and oil pilferage from AOD truckers,” lamented a businessman of Bogapani. “Unabated mushrooming of hotels and dhabas in the area around 2 km from Digboi has become a grave concern,” added the businessman.
