BARPETA: Misappropriation of minority scholarship money has come to light in Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta. The minority scholarship money has been allegedly misappropriated by an employee of the college by using the students' roll numbers.

The Central Government has launched a scheme named Ishan Uday for the benefit of the students. According to this scheme, against one student monthly scholarship of Rs 5,400 is given and yearly a student will get a total amount of Rs 64,800. The employee misappropriated the money of 291 students by using their names and roll numbers. The employee allegedly even completed all the necessary online process with OTP and password.

But when the MC College authority checked, the scandal came to light. An office employee of the college is suspected to be behind the whole scam. He allegedly misappropriated more than Rs 1 crore in this manner. The college authority has lodged an FIR in this regard, said the Principal of the college, Prakash Sarma.
