Misappropriation of Chief Minister Special Assistance Fund Alleged

KALAIGAON: Fund under Chief Minister Special Assistance for beneficiaries living below poverty line was misappropriated by Bhaskarjyoti Manta, BDO of Bhergaon Development Block in Udalguri district. This was alleged by Dilip Nath, an RTI activist, at a press meet held on Monday in the office of Tangla Press Club.

He alleged that the Assam Government allotted the fund of Rs. 315 crore to all legislative assembly constituencies in 2015-16 to build houses for BPL beneficiaries. Bhergaon Development Block also received Rs 2.50 crore. The government directed officers like BDO and Circle Officer to properly implement the scheme for people living below the poverty line. But the BDO of Bhergaon Development Block, Bhaskarjyoti Manta allegedly did not follow the government guideline.

Nath alleged that one beneficiary among 1,000 middle-class families was paid Rs 25,000 by BDO Manta and Kumli Rani Basumatary, MLA of Paneri LAC, for the political benefit during the 2016 election. Nath claimed that Bhaskarjyoti Manta was occupying three posts - BDO of Bhergaon Development Block, PD of Udalguri DRDA and ADC of Udalguri district – and should be arrested.
