Miscreants set ablaze hay and grain stalks of AGP candidate in Nagaon

NAGAON: Sensation prevailed in Nagaon on Sunday night after some unidentified miscreants, as part of post-election violence, set ablaze piles of hay and grain stalks kept in the lawn of a ZPC candidate of AGP at Bebejia Jamuguri village in Nagaon. This has drawn a sharp reaction from all sections of people.

According to sources, Abanti Devi, who contested as a candidate for Hatichung ZPC seat on AGP ticket and finally rendered the seat to the ruling BJP, was asleep in her house at Jamuguri village. At around midnight the family found that fire had engulfed the grain and hay stalks kept in the lawn.

The people of the area immediately informed the local police as well as the fire services. Fire brigade team rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. A bicycle and a scooter were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that it was an act of revenge to her political opponents. Meanwhile, Nagaon Police registered a case and also started an investigation.
