Mising organizations observe Jatiya Dabi Divas with a two-day long programme in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Mising community organizations observed Jatiya Dabi Divas in Lakhimpur, including Dhakuakhana subdivision, on Sunday and Monday with a two-day long programme.

Three organizations of the community - MMK, TMPK and TMMK - observe May 5 as Jatiya Dabi Divas every year. On this occasion, the regional units under the district committees of these organizations and the Mising people took out a torchlight rally on Sunday evening in their respective areas and villages. Staging the programme, the organizations demanded the constitutional recognition of Mising Autonomous Council, the amendment of sections 19 and 25 of the Right to Education Act, 2019, appointment of class and subject teachers in LP schools, closure of the big dam construction until and unless security of the life and property of downstream people is ensured, scrapping of Scheduled Tribe Amendment Bill, 2009, declaration of Mising language as the medium of education in primary schools in the Mising community living areas and immediate starting of the construction work of Chichi-Tekeliphuta Bridge over the Brahmaputra.

On the other hand, the district committees of these organizations jointly took out bike rallies on Monday. They then submitted memoranda to the district administration and subdivisional administration regarding their demands.
