Dibrugarh: Following the mandate of the State Finance Department, a sub-treasury for Chabua was inaugurated on Tuesday by local MLA Binod Hazarika at Chabua Zila Parishad’s Inspection Bungalow.
In his inaugural speech, Hazarika said that the sub-treasury was a part of the announcement made in the Assam Budget regarding the setting up of 26 sub-treasuries across the State. He also informed that plans to set up a Sports University in Chabua were underway and that a 200 bigha plot of land at Dinjan Paniera area was being considered for the purpose. Hazarika, at the same time, announced that an amount of Rs 10 crore would be released under the MLA Signature Policy for the betterment of the Sports Stadium in Chabua. He also pledged construction of pucca roads in the hinterland of Chabua from October onwards from the stipulated amount announced by the State government.
Underscoring the benefits that the sub-treasury would bring along, Treasury Officer of Dibrugarh, Harendranath Baishya Baniya said that the move would expedite the salary disbursement process for the government employees, besides sparing the people from having to travel frequently from Chabua to Dibrugarh for minor works related to treasury.
