Morangi: An awareness meeting addressing pressing social and environmental issues such as drug abuse, child marriage, and the growing human-elephant conflict was held at Morangi Tea Garden, organised by the Indian Tea Labor Association in collaboration with the Morangi Tea Garden Village Guard Force.Key speakers at the event included Mintu Handique, General Manager of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Advocate Jugeshwar Bhuyan, and Mukesh Jal from the Indian Tea Labor Association.

The gathering saw participation from local villagers, tea garden workers, youth groups, and community leaders.Speaking on the issue of human-elephant conflict, Advocate Jugeshwar Bhuyan warned that such confrontations have intensified in recent years, with elephants increasingly moving into lowland areas and human settlements in search of food and shelter.

He stressed the need for community awareness, preventive measures, and cooperation with forest departments to avoid life-threatening encounters. The advocates also touched upon cross-border concerns, cautioning communities to stay aware of issues related to the Tibet region and its broader impacts, although details were kept brief. On child marriage and drug use, speakers emphasized the importance of early education, community vigilance, and legal awareness.

Mintu Handique highlighted the role of public institutions and industries in spreading awareness and contributing to social responsibility initiatives.

Organisers noted that such events are crucial to empower rural communities to tackle social and ecological issues together. Further programs and follow-ups are expected in the coming months.
