JAGUN: More than 100 members and leaders of Congress and others on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Margherita constituency on Sunday. A programme was held on Sunday at Jagun 6th mile Rampur Yuba Sangha hall organized by BJP Margherita Block Mandal Committee and Jagun Gaon panchayat. Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, BJP Margherita Block Mandal president Bhabesh Dutta and other leaders of the BJP were present in the joining programme.

JORHAT: Several Congress members, including Karanga Zila Parishad member Ranjan Saikia, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. The shifting of alliance from Congress to BJP by Ranjan Saikia and six panchayat and zila parishad ward members took place in the presence of Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia, BJP central executive member Santanu Pujari, State BJP spokesperson Hemanta Kalita and BJP Jorhat district president Kamakhya Mohan Das. Ranjan Saikia, who had been president of Jorhat unit of NSUI said that he left the Congress after working for more than 15 years because of the party's decision to join hands with AIUDF. He said that many Congress workers at the grassroots had opposed this alliance. "I am not opposed to the Congress policies and worked hard for about 15 years to build the Congress base here but this alliance is not to my liking," he said.
