BOKAJAN: With the model code of conduct in place and in a bid to prevent misuse of cash in the ensuing State assembly polls, Karbi Anglong police seized cash amounting to Rs 10,48,800 (approx) from two different persons under Dillai and Manja police station in East Karbi Anglong on Friday.

As per reports, the Dillai police seized Rs 7,00,000 in cash from one Lakhan Shah while he was travelling from Dimapur to Hojai in a passenger vehicle. Another Rs 3,48,800 was seized by Manja police from Samrat Deb who was travelling in a Toyota Innova car bound for Guwahati. Both the men were unable to furnish any valid documents for carrying the cash.

Earlier, soon after the model code of conduct was enforced, the Dillai police had seized cash amounting to Rs 2,50,000 from the possession of one Mainul Islam during a random checking conducted on NH-36 on Monday.

"According to election guidelines, any individual carrying Rs 50,000 or more must produce valid documents as proof, failing which the cash shall be confiscated," a police officer said.
