Morom: An initiative to help the needy launched in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: As part of mission ‘Soulful Sivasagar’, Sivasagar district administration has taken a number of initiatives to promote tourism and reach out to the local population as well. One such noble initiative, Morom was dedicated to the needy by the Sivasagar district administration on Sunday.

Morom, a selfless initiative, which was launched at the Circuit House on Sunday by Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya in presence of other administrative officials and general public, aims to extend a helping hand to the needy people of the district for whom managing clothes, winter wear, shoes, books and other essential items itself is a challenge.

Under this initiative, a store room at the Circuit House was formally opened by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya to keep the items contributed under the Morom programme.

Launching the programme, the Deputy Commissioner urged the people to generously contribute old and unused but clean clothes, winter wear, shoes, books and other essential items to the needy people. The Deputy Commissioner said that the contribution should not be made with an attitude of donation but of compassion.

Witnessing an overwhelming response from the general people on the day of launching Morom programme, the Deputy Commissioner thanked the people who came forward for this noble cause. The district administration will streamline the systematic distribution of the collected items among the needy people in a regulated manner.

In the preliminary stage, a vehicle will collect the items from all the 14 wards of Sivasagar town. At a later stage, the programme will be extended to the rural areas. The ASHA workers and the civil defence volunteers will extend their cooperation in this initiative.

The launch programme was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Junumoni Sonowal, Bidit Das and Moon Gogoi, chairperson of Sivasagar Municipal Board, Mridushmita Singha, other officials, representatives of various NGOs and general public.
