PATHSALA: Amid the festive atmosphere, three members of a family were killed in a road mishap on Saturday evening at Rajaghat on the outskirts of Pathsala town in Lower Assam’s Barpeta district. Police said the incident took place when the family members—a woman and her two daughters—were mowed down by a speedy hatchback car when they were crossing NH-31 at Rajaghat. The woman, identified as Monowara Begum, and her two daughters Zesmina Parvin and Machuma Parvin, died on the spot.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the rear windshield glass of the car (Datsun Go) bearing registration number AS 01 EA4124 was completely smashed. The woman along with her two children had come to her parental home at Rajaghat from Bilasipara in Dhubri district during the Durga Puja holidays. Bhawanipur Police have caught the driver of the vehicle and registered a case against him. The bodies were sent for post-mortem to Barpeta.
