Mother of three children raped in Karbi Anglong, accused has been identified

The accused, Utpal Mazumdar, has been arrested for raping a widow and a mother of three children including a two-month-old baby in Borlangpher area.

Borlangpher (Karbi Anglong): A mother of three children including a two-month-old baby was raped on Saturday in an area under Borlangpher police station in Karbi Anglong district.

The rapist is identified as one Utpal Mazumdar, a resident of Sarthe Chinthong village. The heinous incident took place around 7:30 pm.

The victim's husband had passed away one-and-a-half months back.

The victim had said that she couldn't tolerate what had happened to her. She said that a man had barged into her house on the evening of Saturday at 7:30 pm and raped her.

The accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to tell anybody about the incident.

However, the victim filed a case in the morning and a case no. 09/2020 U/S 448/376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.

The victim is under medical care at Diphu Medical College and Hospital.

The Karbi Students Association (KSA) of Borlangpher unit said, "A non-Karbi dared to enter a Karbi widow's home and raped her, which cannot be tolerated. The rapist should be hanged."

In November, a 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in West Karbi Anglong district.

The incident happened at the Athgaon Tamulbari area under Baithalangso police station.

Another instance from Karbi Anglong where three persons were held for their alleged involvement in the rape of a minor girl in Diphu in September.

The three persons were identified as Tendon Ingti, Chesong Ingti amd Birsing Bey. They had fled the scene after committing the crime.

They were picked up by the police from different locations, including Dimapur in Nagaland and Manja locality of the district.

They were traced with the help of cellphone tracking.

Members of several civil organisations of Karbi Anglong, including Karbi Students & Youth Council, Karbi Farmers Association (Tinku), Karbi National Assembly and KSA-Inglongpho helped to take the victim to the civil hospital.

A leader of Karbi National Assembly, Dorsing Terang donated blood to the victim at the hospital.
