Silchar: Expressing confidence that ‘achhe din’ or better days would soon arrive for the party, Moulana Badrauddin Ajmal began extensive exercise to reorganise the AIUDF after the massive debacle in last year’s Lok Sabha election. The AIUDF chief, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Dhubri for three consecutive terms, faced a miserable defeat in the last election as the Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain won by a record margin of almost ten lakh votes. The AIUDF faced a major crisis as open infighting caused huge damage to the party in all its strong bastions like Hailakandi. Ajmal had already expelled two MLAs from the Hailakandi for alleged anti party activities. In this backdrop, the Moulana was again seen in the Barak Valley attending religious gatherings. In Hailakandi’s Borjurai area, Ajmal while addressing a rally, said, every party faces good days and bad days, but hence there was no reason to believe that the AIUDF was finished. Highlighting the allegedly erroneous Panchayat delimitation, Ajmal asked the party MLA Sujamuddin to build up agitation in this issue.

Making scathing attack on Rakibul Hussain,  Ajmal said, during the last year’s flood, the Congress MP did not even visit Dhubri. “People of the constituency had come to me for help as the MP they had elected could not be contacted,” Ajmal alleged.
