TANGLA: The denizens of Tangla have vehemently opposed the move to shift the upgraded 100-bedded Tangla CHC from the heart of Tangla town to Dakhin Jangalpara located 3 km away from Tangla town in the Udalguri district.

According to reports, the project of upgradation of the hospital to 100-bedded hospital was approved in the same place. However, after the tender was awarded it was dragged to the court by two contractors which delayed the execution of the project for more than two years, following which the BTC authorities and Health Department allegedly decided to shift the hospital to a remote location to Dakhin Jangalpara village. Accordingly, the Bodoland Territorial Council authorities vide letter no. BTC/LR-532/2022/29 have also dereserved and alloted 20 bighas of land at Dakhin Jangalpara village for the construction of the upgraded 100-bedded Hospital of Tangla in the new location.

The conscious citizens have, however, demanded that the hospital should remain in the same place and location and should never be shifted or transferred. “If the government doesn’t roll back the decision we will be forced to stage democratic protests in the interest of the common citizens of the district,” said a member of the hospital demand committee.

The hospital demand committee members have also sent memorandum in this regard to Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) CEM Pramod Boro and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “The town is well connected by railway, the State Highway 4 runs through the heart of the town, the present location is convenient for the citizens, medical professionals and after a long wait the hospital is being upgraded and the present campus has more than 7 bighas land which is enough for a G plus 3 building. But depriving the people from better healthcare facilities by shifting it to the village will serve no purpose,” said Lalit Kumar Baglari, one of the members of the committee.
