

Nagaon: Gaurav Gogoi, the MP of Kaliabor Loksabha Constituency and son of former Assam' Chief minister Tarun Gogoi today donated 5000 Rs each from his salary to the next kin of Six deceased of the tragic electrocution incident that occurred at Uttar Khatowal of Rupahi recently.
Gaurav Gogoi along with former minister Rockybul Hussain and Nurul Hooda MLA of Rupahihat visited the place of incident and met the victims family members and later took part in a Community prayer for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Gogoi also visited the 7 victim families whose houses were completely gutted in the devastating fire that occured in Maheripara of Rupahihat.
It may be mentioned that the electricity department has been alleged of negligence as on Friday last, Nagaon, at least six fishermen were electrocuted and many others injured when a live high-voltage wire touched the water of a pond on Friday.
Police said that the incident occurred in Rupohi area of Nagaon under Juria police station. An 11,000-volt high tension power line which was hanging loosely over the pond had somehow immersed into the water, thus by transferring live electricity voltage into the pond.
However, according to the villagers, the incident had been reported to the local electricity office, but they were assured that the power line was dead and that no live current is flowing through it.
On the other hand, unaware of the high tension wire, the fishermen had come to the pond to take a bath and wash, when they were caught in live electricity and electrocuted.
The injured were rushed to the civil hospital in Nagaon, police said.
Furious on the callous attitude of the electricity department officials, an irate mob armed themselves with sticks and went to the residence of the electricity department official’s house and damaged his car.
Meanwhile, following the ruckus and vandalism, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the State Power Minister Tapan Gogoi to head towards the site.
