KOKRAJHAR: A meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) of Chirang district was held under the chairmanship of Naba Kumar Sarania, Member of Parliament (MP), Kokrajhar, in the conference hall of District Centre, Kajalgaon recently.

The meeting was attended by Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jayanta Basumatary, Ajay Kumar Ray, Deputy Speaker of Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) Abhiram Mahanayak, Narendra Kumar Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, MCLAs Prabhat Basumatary, Saikhong Basumatary, Additional Deputy Commissioners Khanindra Das, Ajit Kumar Sarmah, representative of MP Abdul Khaleque, and all officials of the district. The committee reviewed the work status and assessed the progress of the flagship schemes of central and state government and suggested for completion of all works in a time-bound manner with maintaining quality as per guidelines of the schemes.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the committee reviewed the overall status of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM), Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), etc.

He suggested the Project Director, District Rural Development Agency to hold Gram Sabhas properly and regularly with the intimation of public representatives of the district.

Further, the members sought the creation of a post of secretary at every Village Council Development Committees (VCDC) from the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in order to run all the VCDC offices smoothly by maintaining transparency and accountability.

With respect to PWD (Public Works Department), Chairman Sarania asked the Executive Engineer of the department to find out all the remaining wooden bridges in the district immediately for necessary conversion of the same. He also reviewed and assessed the ongoing schemes like Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and other signature schemes. As such, the PHE (Public Health Engineering) and also the Education departments were asked to jointly assess the implementation status of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in the educational institutions during the meeting.

He also took stock of the progress of the 'Jal Jivan Mission' under Public Health Engineering, covid situation, COVID-19 vaccination drive and availability of manpower like doctors and staff position under Health and Family Welfare department, the status of construction of model schools and girls' hostels, including ongoing admission process in higher secondary schools and colleges from the education department, running of shelter homes and Poshan Abhiyan under social welfare department, progress reports on PM Kishan and Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Vikash Yojana (RKVY) of agriculture department along with implementation status of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) under Food and Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs department.

During the meeting, the District Transport Officer was instructed to identify all accident-prone areas and to control plying of overloaded trucks across the district for the safety of public and maintenance roads.

At the end of the event, the chairman of the DISHA declared that the committee members, including himself, would conduct field visits on September 29 and 30, 2021 to get the real scenario of all the flagship schemes of Central and State governments being implemented in the district.
