Muharram Vandalism Incident: Accused granted bail by Dibrugarh Court

Dibrugarh: Following the acts of vandalism in Dibrugarh Town during the holy celebration of the Islamic festival of Muharram on last Tuesday, Dibrugarh police arrested two people in connection to the incident and presented them before the court on Thursday.

The arrested accused identified as Javed Akhtar Khan alias Azad Khan and Fulkan Hussain were later granted bail by the Dibrugarh Court.

Both the accused were arrested by Dibrugarh police against Dibrugarh Police Station (case no. 1523/19) under section 120(B)/143/144/149/188/431/427/34 of the Indian Penal Code.

As per police reports, three vehicles were vandalized during Tazia Procession in Dibrugarh on the day of Muharram on September 10 and accordingly a case was registered.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Superintendent of Police, Subashini Sankaran informed that all the preventative measures have been taken and security forces are also being deployed in order to maintain law and order condition in the district.

Superintendent of Police Subashini Sankaran while briefing the media also confirmed that certain images which were being circulated in the social media of people with pistols do not belong to Dibrugarh. “We just want whoever is circulating whatever should confirm the matter with the police department if they are doubtful about the authenticity of any image or any kind of activity in the district,” urged SP Sankaran.
