Multilingual Poetry Magazine Niyor Released at Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Niyor, a multilingual yearly poetry magazine under the editorship of poet Nazlina Alom was released at a special programme organized at the conference hall of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) on Tuesday.

The programme, which was organized under the aegis of Niyor editorial board and in association with the Assamese Department of the college, was chaired by Lily Chelleng, the Head of the department. The programme began with the lighting of the earthen lamp and paying of floral tribute to the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his eighth death anniversary. Assistant Professor Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa delivered the welcome speech. A prominent writer and Assistant Professor of the same department, Dr. Hemanta Srmah released the magazine in the presence of a galaxy of noted literary figures.

Niyor carries the perennial message of unity and integration. Undoubtedly, the new poetry magazine will establish a milestone in the movement of the literature of the State,” said Dr. Sarmah. He added that the incorporation of poetry composed in ethnic languages by eminent poets of various tribes, castes, and communities along with their Assamese translation had given the magazine a unique dimension.

Editor of the magazine, Nazlina Alam said, “Niyor is my dream project. We grew up in an environment of peace and harmony. Niyor will act as a bridge of harmony and integration against intolerance and discrimination which always try to decay the bond of unity among us,” she added.

Attending the programme as guests of honour, prominent writer Bharat Rajkhowa and Principal of the college, Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia delivered speeches while journalist-poet Ranjit Kakati recited self-composed poetry on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his death anniversary. Vocal artiste Himakshi Chetia presented a Bhupendra Sangeet. Retired bank officer writer Bipin Saikia and journalist Sanjib Borah also spoke on the occasion.
