Multiple protests against Government rocks Sivasagar

JOYSAGAR: In protest against the ruling BJP government at the Centre as well as in the State, many social organizations came out to the street on Saturday to express their dissatisfaction against the policies and schemes of the ruling party which allegedly were against the welfare of the people of the country.

The Sivasagar District Scheduled Caste Students’ Union staged a dharna in front of the Sivasagar DC’s office. The organization demanded to stop the processes which could make it easy for suspected foreigners to get shelter in India. Meanwhile, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) Sivasagar District Committee members staged a sit-in in front of the Sivasagar DC’s office main gate and demanded implementation of the inner line permit system in Assam as well as dual citizenship.

AJYCP also criticized the Supreme Court, as well as the State NRC draft officials as allegedly hundreds of indigenous citizens, were unable to enroll themselves in the NRC final draft while hundreds of suspected foreigners could easily enroll themselves in the NRC draft by using doubtful documents.

Besides, the Sivasagar District All India Students’ Federation members also staged a protest against the government’s weak role in controlling the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities in the country. The AISF also criticized the State Government for allegedly silently permitting the big business groups in the transport sector to earn about 170 percent more by granting the proposed transportation price hike up to 30 percent without discussing with the consumer organizations.

Sivasagar District Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) activists also staged a protest against the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities and scams like the APSC cash-for-job scam and State Agriculture Department scam. The organization submitted a memorandum to the Sivasagar DC through the Executive Magistrate.

The Sivasagar District Congress (I) Committee and the Sivasagar District Congress Mahila Sewa Dal members took out a protest rally from Rajiv Bhavan throughout the town and assembled in front of the DC’s office where the protesters staged a dharna against the BJP-led Union and State governments. The protesters slammed the BJP for its anti-people policies and for allowing high-profile defaulters to flee the country while common people were suffering due to abnormal taxes and price hike.

Sivasagar Congress leader Manuranjan Gohain also slammed the BJP for the controversial Rafale deal.
