Municipal areas to remain under total lockdown during weekends in Tezpur

TEZPUR: In view of the situation prevailing in the State due to COVID-19 and as per orders received from the Government of Assam, the District Magistrate, Sonitpur, in exercise of powers conferred U/S 144 CrPC has enforced curfew in all the areas under Sonitpur district from 7 PM to 7 AM on all days, with immediate effect and until further orders.

Moreover, in a separate order the District Magistrate enforced total lockdown during weekends in all the municipal areas falling under Sonitpur district, viz., Tezpur Development Authority, Dhekiajuli Municipal Board, Rangapara Municipal Board and Jamugurihat Municipal Board for the period starting at 00:00 hours of June 27 (Saturday) till 07:00 hours of June 29 (Monday).

Similarly, lockdown in these municipal areas has been announced for all subsequent weekends starting at 19:00 hours on Fridays and ending on 07:00 hours on Mondays. The second lockdown period will start at 7:00 PM of July 3 (Friday) and end on 7:00 AM of July 6, 2020 (Monday). The third lockdown period will start at 7:00 PM of July 10 (Friday) and end on 7:00 AM of July 13, 2020 (Monday). Similarly, the fourth lockdown period in the above mentioned areas will begin at 7:00 PM of July 17 (Friday) and end on 7:00 AM of July 20, 2020 (Monday). And the fifth lockdown will start at 7:00 PM of July 24 (Friday) and end on 7:00 AM of July 27, 2020 (Monday).

During the enforced lockdowns, movement of persons, use of private vehicles and commercial passenger vehicles will not be permitted; all business/ commercial establishments, shops and trade activities including milk supply, grocery shops, vegetable shops, daily bazaars, weekly markets and haats will not be permitted to operate; all industrial establishments shall remain closed; all public transport services shall remain closed; all hospitality services shall remain closed; all educational, research, training, coaching institutions shall remain closed; all places of worship shall remain closed for the public.

No religious congregations will be permitted without any exception. All social/political/ sports/ entertainment/ academic/ cultural/ religious functions and gatherings shall be barred.

The following categories will be exempted from the purview of the lockdown: Defence, Central and State Police Forces, establishment of the District Magistrate, Commissioner of Police, home guards, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Disaster Management, Electricity, Water, Sanitation, municipal bodies (only staff required for essential services like sanitation, water supply); hospitals, retail and wholesale medical establishments; print and electronic media including newspaper distribution are allowed; telecommunications, internet services, broadcasting and cable services, IT and IT enabled services to continue with personnel engaged permitted to work from home only.

Inter-State movement will also remain suspended except with prior permissions/ pass. People (inter-state/ inter-district) holding train/ air tickets to and from Guwahati as well as to Guwahati will be allowed to move only on production of such tickets at check points.

The order will come into force with immediate effect throughout Sonitpur district and will remain valid for the lockdown period and until further orders.
