BISWANATH CHARIALI: NABARD, the development Bank of the nation, is the pioneer of SHG movement in the country since 1992. Since long, NABARD is also engaged in capacity building of the SHG members to support them in sustainable income generation.

Continuing the trend, NABARD, Assam RO has sanctioned one LEDP Skill Training programme on Weaving (Eri and Silk) to be implemented by CADAT (NGO) in Pub Nagsangkar Gaon Panchayat under Sootea Development Block in Sonitpur district. The programme aims to train 90 SHG members over a period of 15 days. The programme also aims to support the SHG members in setting up micro enterprises through credit linkage.

The training programme was inaugurated on February 25 in the presence of Preetam Kumar Nath, DDM, NABARD, Sonitpur and Biswanath, Rupnal Patar, Pub-Nagsankar Gaon Panchayat member, Dhiren Deka, Chairman CADAT, Manoranjan Hazarika, Secretary, CADAT and Rejina Baglari, weaving master trainer. During the ceremony, DDM NABARD highlighted the need of setting up micro enterprises by the SHG members in order to achieve sustainable socio-economic development and women empowerment. Chairman CADAT, Biswanath explained regarding the need of being financially literate and good credit behaviour.
