KOKRAJHAR: A valedictory function for trainees of Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) of NABARD was conducted at Gour Govinda Nitya Seva Ashram, Madaikhali, Asharikandi, Dhubri, Assam that ended on Friday. The programme was graced by Ratan Mani Soram, DDM NABARD, Kokrajhar/ Dhubri, Mahadeb Paul, State awardee artisan, official from ASRLM Debitola block and Anjanjyoti Bhattacharya, Chairman of Randia Youth Centre, Rangia.

Speaking on the occasion, Ratan Mani Soram, DDM NABARD, Kokrajhar/ Dhubri said that MEDP, which is an on-location skill development training programme of NABARD, attempts to bridge the skill deficits or facilitate optimization of production activities already pursued by the SHG members was sanctioned by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Assam Regional Office, Guwahati to Randia Youth Centre, Rangia, Assam.

Under the MEDP, 15 days training were imparted to 30 SHG members in making and marketing of finished products of terracotta. He also said that Assam Asharikandi Terracotta was one out of eight products sanctioned by NABARD Assam RO for GI registration. He said that GI registration was under process and it would benefit the artisans of Asharikandi as it provides legal protection against unauthorized copying/use of the registered GI products by others. He said that it would also enhance the reputation and value of the local products and support local business. He also said the SHG members to develop and upgrade the design so as to meet the market demand.

Anjanjyoti Bhattacharya, Chairman of Randia Youth Centre, Rangia told the trainees to apply for MUDRA loan so that they get capital to purchase basic tools and modern equipment to reduce drudgery.
