NAGAON: In view of the upcoming Panchayat elections on May 7, the Nagaon District Administration has imposed several restrictions to maintain law and order under 163 BNSS across the district here.
Nagaon District Magistrate Narendra Kumar Shah issued an order under Section 163 of the BNSS, prohibiting several activities, including holding public meetings, processions, or rallies without prior permission from the district administration, using loudspeakers or making inflammatory speeches that may disturb public peace, displaying posters or banners with objectionable content, collecting funds or donations from the public without permission, carrying firearms, explosives, or dangerous weapons, holding unauthorized public gatherings or meetings, etc. The order also requires licensed firearm holders to deposit their weapons at the nearest police station until the election process is complete.
However, the restrictions do not apply to law enforcement personnel, students, government employees, or state election commission officials on duty. Additionally, religious gatherings at places of worship are exempted from these restrictions, provided prior intimation is given to the authorities.
The order comes into effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice, an official press note added here.
