NAGAON: Nagaon district administration as well as district police administration is all set to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja across the district and also made all security arrangements for peaceful celebration.

While addressing a press conference at the Nagaon DC's conference hall on Friday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kr Shah said that around 180 Puja committees under Nagaon subdivision applied online for permission till date and the administration had already issued permission orders to 82 Puja committees. But the rest will get permission tomorrow if they can submit the relevant documents, Shah added.

Referring to the security as well as law and order situation in the areas of the concerned Puja committees, Shah said that the Puja committees were asked to submit a list of volunteers to the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Besides, three toll free numbers - one for district administration and two for police administration have been already introduced for the public so that people can inform or intimate anything else beforehand for immediate assistance or emergency services.

During the press briefing, SP Leena Doley also elaborated the security arrangements during the day of celebration and said that with a view of free and peaceful celebration, the district police administration arranged additional 250 police personnel from outside the district and the additional security personnel would reach the district headquarters soon after the India-South Africa T20 Guwahati match. She said that the administration would ban entry of heavy vehicles to the town from 2 pm to 12 am during the Puja celebration and also would seal some roads as well as sub-roads during those days. SP Doley urged all to maintain the new road arrangements or roadmap and follow strict traffic prohibition that would be imposed by the police administration.
