Guwahati: In disheartening news for the book lovers, the mobile library in Nagaon which has witnessed many ups and downs in the socio-political arena for the last several years is now in a dilapidated state.

The mobile library, set up on an old vehicle has been standing like a static object near the Nagaon District Library.

Local people alleged that the library, which served book lovers in the district once, took this form due to the apathy of the concerned government department.

They also demanded the government to preserve the library.

An official, on the other hand, revealed to media that the government allocated the mobile library to the district in 1955. From then, it served the readers for several years supplying books.

The official also appealed to government to take steps for preservation of the vehicle.

"We appealed to the government to take steps for preservation of the vehicle. It is heritage," he added.
