NAGAON: Based on secret inputs, Nagaon police led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Nagaon, Dhruba Bora arrested a gang of oil thieves from Tinsukia district on Wednesday.

Sources claimed that the gang of thieves was involved in an oil theft case on February 20 at Krishnaighat under Bebejia Outpost in the district. The arrested thieves have been identified as Nikuranjan Gogoi of Balijan Tea Estate, Duliajan, Naren Bora of Khukunpukhuri, Tinsukia, Indrajit Chutia of Luharpatti road, Tinsukia and Pranab Saikia of Ghanhi Majgaon, Nagaon.

The same gang camped at Montripti Dhaba near Krishnaighat and stole crude oil from an oil pipeline passing through the area by drilling a hole in the pipeline. Sources said that during interrogation, all the arrested thieves confessed their crime and also admitted that they stole crude oil from the oil pipeline near Krishnaighat by drilling a hole in the pipeline.

The manager of Mantripti Dhaba, Pranab Saikia along with a group of local youths made all arrangements for them to steal crude oil from the pipeline passing through the area, sources said, adding that soon they would also be arrested.
