Nalini Kanta Dahutia Memorial Lecture held in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: ‘Language, literature and culture are the three parameters that determine the existence of a community if a language is lost literature gets obliterated and if literature is destroyed the culture is threatened. The language is our birthright but we must use the language inappropriate forms’ said former president AXX Prahlad Chandra Tasa while delivering Nalini Kanta Dahutia Memorial Lecture as guest speaker. It was held at Padmanath Gohain Baruah Auditorium in Tinsukia on Thursday. Padma Shri awardee Tasa stated that though Assamese language was legally protected under Language Act 1960, it was the responsibility of every Assamese to protect it through peaceful and motivational approach. He further said that medium of language should not be confused with mother tongue. Commenting on the valuable contribution of Nalini Kanta Dahutia, Tasa urged upon the organiser to erect his bust in a suitable place at Tinsukia and also to publish his literary works.

The programme was chaired by president Tinsukia branch of AXX Tilok Handique. The dignitaries present on the dais were social worker Bhuban Singh Dahutia, president Tinsukia district committee of AXX Dr Girish Handique and former secretary Tarang Malla Baruah besides functionaries of all branches of AXX. The programme began with Borgeet by Arunima Handique, followed by floral tribute on the portrait of Nalini Kanta Dahutia by his son Bhuban Singh Dahutia and Prahlad Chandra Tasa. Attended by leading citizens of the district, the programme also witnessed felicitation to Bornali Debnath who secured highest marks in Assamese in last HSLC examinations among all non-Assamese medium schools in the district. Three books written by Tilok Handique namely Mahabolipuramor Pora Andamanoloi, Joytir Joyti and Roktakto Colombo Aru Bedonakhikto Ami were also released on the occasion.
