SILCHAR: In yet another massive success in the ongoing war against drugs, Assam police have been able to capture drugs worth Rs 10 Crs in the city of Silchar.

Acting based on specific inputs, a combined team of Cachar Police and Karimganj Police conducted a special operation. The operation took place in the Sincoorie Road locality in the city of Silchar. The officials were able to recover a total of 100 soap cases loaded with narcotics. On proper checking, they were found to contain a total of 1.4 kilos of heroin.

The police also arrested 33 years old Shaheed Ahmed, a resident of the Puwamara locality of Karimganj in regard to the incident. And the total value of the narcotics is said to be around Rs 10 Cr in the market.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar district, Numal Mahatta informed that the huge consignment of narcotics came from the Champai district of Mizoram into Assam and was supposed to be moved to the other states of the country. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 with regard to the incident.

State police were able to apprehend two more suspected peddlers of narcotic substances in the Itakhula region of the state in a different incident. A police team carried out an operation in the Itakhula daily market which is located under the Itakhula police station of Sootea. It was carried out at around 4 PM on Thursday based on specific inputs. The team was led by the officer in charge of Sootea police station Shamaljyoti Saikia and the officer in charge of Itakhula police station Bhaskarjyoti Saikia.

The operation led to the capture of one Babul Ali aged 30 years and one Rafikul Islam aged 28 years who have been alleged of peddling narcotics substances. About 14 grams of contraband brown sugar were also confiscated from them. According to the police, they had brought the narcotics to sell the same to someone in the market but were caught red-handed by the police. A Bajaj Pulsar Motorcycle bearing registration number AS 12 F 3158 was also seized by the police from the accused.
