GUWAHATI: The Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Assam on January 14 to take part in the Bihu celebration that has been curated to create a world record. He will also inaugurate several projects during the visit and one of them is the Methanol plant in Namrup of Assam.

In what is expected to be a massive push for the industrial sector of the state and the entire region, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will be dedicating a massive methanol production plant to the public on Friday. Located in Namrup of Assam, this project comes under Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited. It has a capacity of 500 TPD methanol. This project is a joint venture of the Government of Assam and Oil India Limited.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this is one of the major investments by the state government in the public sector after investing in Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) over the last one decade. Over the last three to four years, the state government’s stake in the Numaligarh Refinery Limited has increased to 26%.

This project has been created with a total investment of Rs 1709 Cr and the prime minister is expected to flag off the project virtually from Guwahati itself.

Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that Narendra Modi will be landing at the Guwahati Airport and boarding a helicopter to IIT Guwahati. From there he will move towards the inauguration program of the AIIMS in Changsari. Built with a cost of Rs 1123 Crs, this project is 85% complete and the remaining 15% will be completed soon, mentioned the chief minister.

He will also inaugurate three other medical colleges in the state virtually along with several other projects during this visit. These are the Nagaon Medical College, the Kokrajhar Medical College and the Nalbari Medical College.
