MAJULI:At the time when the Assam Government is laying trust on millet cultivation by launching model millet project, a group of farmers of UjoniMajuli Agro Producer Company Ltd. has joined hands to cultivate and sell the crop in packaged form under the brand name Majuli Foxtail Millet, supported under farm sector promotion fund (FSPF) and implemented by ATMS.
The product ‘Majuli Foxtail Millet’ was launched in the presence of Majuli DC Dr Cauvery Borkakoti Sharma, DDM of NABARD, Mantu Das, and other dignitaries on Thursday at the DC conference hall, Garamur, Majuli. The programme was initiated by DDM of NABARD where he spoke about the model millet project and then the product was launched.
The company UjoniMajuli Agro Producer Company Ltd. was formed on December 12, 2022. The farmers of this company had undertaken cultivation in 175 bighas in the Majuli district.
NABARDDDM Majuli Mantu Das, while welcoming the participants, briefed about the objective of the model millet project. He also stated the various initiatives undertaken by NABARD under farm and off farm sector during the last year in the form of various livelihood activities and particularly the model millet project at Majuli through UjoniMajuli Agro Produce Company Ltd. He also wished the FPC for the launched the package millet in Majuli and hoped that the product would be able to captured a big market, stated a press release.
