National Girl Child Day observed across Assam

Hailakandi: National Girl Child Day was celebrated in Hailakandi district in a befitting manner on Friday. The day was observed with various programmes to increase the awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by the girl child in the society.

Inequality about girl child is a vast problem which includes many areas like inequality in education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, protection, honour, child marriage etc.

Many programmes were organised coinciding with the occasion including awareness campaign on save girl child, child sex ratios and creating a healthy and safe environment for a girl child. Rallies and processions were also taken out to raise awareness on the girl child. The Mahila Shakti Kendras (MSKs) under Katlicherra, Lala, Algapur, Hailakandi and South Hailakandi ICDS projects took the pledge to stop gender biased sex selection and gender discrimination and reaffirmed their commitment to protect the rights of every girl child. The MSKs also took the pledge to work together towards improving the declining trend of child sex ratio.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Sonapur Social Development Society, an NGO, in Association with Sewali Adolescent Group, the National Girl Child Day was organized in Athabari 12 No on Friday. On the occasion, an awareness camp was organized on the protection of the girls, equal rights for boys and girls, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao were discussed in the presence of girls as well as the guardians. The members of the Sonapur Social Development Society explained the girls regarding the topics broadly. After that different sports events were organized among the girls on the occasion. In the programme. Gauranga Chaura, a teacher, members of Sonapur Social Development Society, an NGO, members of Sewali Adolescent Group and guardians were present.

LAKHIMPUR: The National Girl Child Day was observed on Friday under the auspices of District Child Protection Unit, Lakhimpur of Social Welfare Department in collaboration with all the Integrated Child Development Schemes Projects under the district.

On this occasion, a special programme was organized in the auditorium Lakhimpur District Library by distributing leaflets and displaying posters comprised of girl child’s rights, child protection issues etc. In connection an exhibition of articles made by inmates of Children Home, Lakhimpur was organized, in addition to taking out a rally by the ICDS functionaries.

The awareness meeting, organized on the occasion, was held in the presence of students from various schools of the district including Lakhimpur Girls’ HS School along with their teachers, Anganwadi employees, supervisors etc. The awareness meeting was initiated with a pledge taking ceremony on the protection of girl child. It began with a Borgeet by Khyati Borah and a Xatriya Dance performance by Ridhi Tamuly. ADC Utpal Borah graced the occasion as chief guest while secretary of DLSA, Lakhimpur Bichitra Dutta, vice president of Jagriti NGO Abu Sayeed Khan, District Social Welfare Officer in charge Prasanta Borah, Labour Inspector Prasanna Tayung were present as guests of honour.
