GUWAHATI: To make the traditional Assamese Mekhela-Chador popular outside of Assam, celebrated Bollywood Actress Chitrangada Singh donned the attire and posed before the camera today.

The popular actress has donned the traditional Assamese women's outfit on the occasion of National Handloom Day. The outfit she has worn on the occasion was designed by famous Assamese designer Sanjukta Dutta.

The actress has uploaded some photos of her donning the dress on social media and praised designer Dutta. She also said that she likes the traditional Assamese attire and it fascinates her.

Taking to her official Instagram handle she wrote, "Thank you so much @Sanjukta_Dutta_ for this beautiful saree. I am super excited to wear, a Mekhala Chador, such a special gift on this National Handloom Day."

Speaking on the association, actress Chitrangda Singh said, "Handloom has always been my favorite and I wear it regularly. It was a total delight to wear this beautifully made Mekhela Chador designed by Sanjukta which takes 20-25 days and the hard work of 100 workers to make one single piece of the Mekhela chador."

She further added, "I wish Sanjukta the best for the future to continue her amazing work in helping preserve the heritage and through her art keep supporting such valuable causes."
