TANGLA: The fifth edition of National Handloom Day was observed at the Udalguri district Sericulture office premises with a day-long programme on Wednesday. The programme was centrally organized at Udalguri by the Weavers’ Service Centre (WSC). The inaugural session of the programme got underway with lighting of lamps by the dignitaries present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Tridip Daimari, Speaker of BTC assembly, hailed the rapid progress made by the weavers of the region and hoped that Udalguri was on the verge of making a mark in the global map for production of superior quality silk and Eri production.
The inaugural session was also addressed by Robinson Mochahary, additional principal secretary of BTC, Dr. Jogesh Deury, director of Sericulture, BTC and Ripen Daimari, chairman of Udalguri municipality board.
The chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion also distributed training certificates and improved certified handloom (Soil to Silk project) and cheques of BTC grants under SOPD to the selected beneficiaries while a programme was also held for distribution of kits and materials to the silk rearers under Soil to Silk project.
In the second technical session, the representatives of NHDC and HEPC and DCH dwelt on the proper handling of tools, machines and raw materials and funds provided for the betterment of the silk related industry. Meanwhile, a team of five members of Sericulture department from Tamil Nadu also visited the Udalguri office of sericulture and took stock of development.
