National handloom expo gets underway at Morigaon School field

MORIGAON: A 14-day long national handloom expo 2018-19, sponsored by the Development Commissioner Handloom, Ministry of Textile, Government of India, started from Monday at Morigaon School field. It has been organized by ARTFED, Assam Apex Weavers and Artisans Cooperative Federation Ltd. The national-level expo was formally inaugurated by Managing Director of ARTFED, Mukul Ch. Deka. Inaugurating the expo, he asked weavers to take up weaving as their livelihood. He also urged weavers to be professional and to avail the mudra loan system considering the competitive market.

Nishikant Sarma, Superintendent, Handloom and Textile Department, Morigaon appealed to weavers to apply for mudra loan so that they could become self-sufficient by purchasing modern equipment for weaving. A total of 52 stalls have been put up in the expo.
