Biswanath Chariali: The affected people, whose thousands of bighas of land were acquired by the Government of India for the purpose of four-laning of the National Highway 15, have threatened to stop the work if their demands are not met by October 12. This was decided on Monday at a public meet organized by 15 No Rashtriya Ghaipath Kshatigrasta Suraksha Eikyamancha at Binapani Natya Mandir with Lakhyajit Das in the chair.

The meeting was attended by thousands of affected people from Gohpur to Jamuguri. The apex body of the affected people alleged that the government had been dilly-dallying in the name of paying compensation to the landowners of 132 villages from Dolabari, Tezpur to Rajgarh, Gohpur.

The government had acquired land for the four-laning and expansion of the National Highway 15 from Dolabari, Tezpue in Sonitpur district to Rajgarh, Gohpur in Biswanath district in 2012. Significantly, the government had appointed an arbitrator to deal with the issues bowing to the pressure of the organization but his recommendations were not attended to till date by the departments concerned, people alleged.

Therefore, the Eikyamancha has decided to stop the ongoing work of four-laning and also to observe a ‘Go to Circle Officer’s Office’ programme from October 12.
