KOKRAJHAR: The two-day national seminar on the potentialities and prospect of sports in BTC got underway from today at the auditorium hall of CHD, Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC in Kokrajhar.
Organized by the department of Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, the national-level seminar was inaugurated by the CEM of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Pramod Boro after lighting the ceremonial lamp and floral tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma.
In his inaugural speech, the CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro said there was huge potential to hunt sporting talents in various disciplines in the council but there was lack of infrastructures and academic facilities. He said the BTC government had prepared a roadmap to develop sports in every discipline to harness the talents for which the council government was looking for establishing at least five sports academies in 2023. He also said that the Reliance Oil had decided to establish a sports academy in BTR to facilitate education on games and sports. Besides, various private investors have also shown interest to establish sports academy and many private parties are likely to come up with the same mission in the days to come. Boro informed that a world-class sports university would be set up in Udalguri very soon and DPR in this regard had been submitted to the Government of India.
Pramod Boro said Kokrajhar was the epicentre of football and almost in every reputed club of the State there would be players from Kokrajhar. He said people of the region had love for football. The interested youths should play sports at the right time to choose it as career, he said adding that many youths had been absorbed in different sectors and departments. He quoted the president of All India Football Federation, Kalyan Chaube as saying that the architect who designed World Cup stadium in Qatar had assured to design the proposed stadium to be built at Kokrajhar at a cost of Rs 150 crore, free of cost. He also said the council had taken up special emphasize for the development of sports.
As part of the programme, floral tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma was paid by BTC chief Pramod Boro and other distinguished guests. The introduction-cum-felicitation of guests and resource persons was done by Swmdwn Muchahary, i/c, CHD, Sports & Youth Welfare department while welcome address was given by NC Basumatary, Secretary, Sports & Youth Welfare, BTC.
The topic of the first technical session was 'Roadmap for the uplift of sports in Bodoland Territorial Region' which was chaired by Dr Subhash Basumatary, former Regional Director, SAI, NER, Guwahati. The topic of the second technical session was 'Promotion and development of sports and formation of development board/sports advisory council in BTR' which was chaired by Dr Mantu Boro, Assistant Professor and Director in-charge of Physical Education & Sports Dibrugarh University, Assam.
Many sports personalities and resource persons from different parts of India took part in the seminar and presented their papers. The representatives from various sports associations from BTC took part in the seminar.
